A Hero’s Proposal

It was supposed to be a romantic evening, a celebration of our one-year anniversary. My boyfriend, Blake, and I had planned a dinner at a cozy restaurant, with my parents watching my four-year-old son, Liam. But the night took a dramatic turn when Blake suddenly jumped out of his seat, screaming, “He did it again!” and rushing outside.

I was left stunned, wondering what was happening. Blake’s behavior had been strange all evening, his eyes scanning the room, his leg bouncing under the table. I had tried to brush it off as nerves, but now I realized that something was seriously wrong.

As I turned to follow Blake, I saw Liam’s toy car floating in the pool. A wave of panic washed over me, and I remembered the terrifying moment when Liam had fallen into a pool at a friend’s barbecue almost a year ago. Blake had saved him then, diving into the water without hesitation.

Now, it was happening again. Liam was in the pool, his little body struggling to stay afloat. Blake didn’t hesitate, diving into the water to rescue him. I was frozen in shock, unable to move or speak.

When Blake emerged from the pool, gasping for air, he handed Liam to me, and I clutched him tightly, tears of relief streaming down my face. But Blake wasn’t finished yet. He dove back into the pool, searching for something. Finally, he emerged, holding a small, shiny object in his hand.

As he climbed out of the pool, water dripping from his clothes, he dropped to one knee. The object in his hand was a ring, and he was proposing to me. I was overwhelmed, unable to speak or breathe. All I could do was nod, tears streaming down my face.

“Yes,” I finally managed to say, my voice shaking. “Yes, I’ll marry you.”

The restaurant erupted into cheers, and my parents rushed over to congratulate us. Liam, still shaken but happy, clapped along, shouting, “Yay! Mama’s happy!”

As we left the restaurant, I realized that Blake was more than just my boyfriend – he was my hero, and Liam’s superhero. He had saved my son twice, and he had given me a new kind of forever. The ring on my finger was a symbol of our love, but it was Blake himself who was the real treasure.
