Amanda, a woman in her 60s, lived a quiet life hosting a weekly book club in her home. She was known for her love of order and her tendency to judge those around her. One day, she met Jane, a 50-year-old neighbor, at the grocery store. Amanda invited Jane to join her book club, and Jane accepted.
However, Jane soon stopped attending the book club, and Amanda couldn’t understand why. She tried calling Jane, but her calls went unanswered. It wasn’t until Amanda saw Jane walking down the street, caressing her round belly, that she realized Jane was pregnant.
Amanda couldn’t wait to share the news with her book club members. “I swear that Jane is pregnant!” she exclaimed. The other women chimed in, making jokes about Jane’s age and the fact that she was having a child. Amanda laughed along with them, saying, “At her age, she should be babysitting her grandchildren, not giving birth! It’s disgusting!”
But little did Amanda know, Jane’s pregnancy was not what it seemed. A few days later, Amanda saw Jane at the grocery store again and decided to confront her. “You know, pregnant women shouldn’t eat peanuts. It can cause allergies!” Amanda said, trying to sound knowledgeable. Jane calmly replied that her doctor had given her the okay to eat peanuts.
Just then, Jane’s daughter and son-in-law appeared, and the daughter confronted Amanda about her behavior. “My mom’s pregnancy is none of your business,” she said. “But since you’re all up in her business, the truth is, I’ve been trying to get pregnant for two years, but each pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. My mom offered to be a surrogate mother for us.”
Amanda was stunned and immediately felt embarrassed for her behavior. She apologized to Jane and her daughter, and from that day on, she made a conscious effort to change her ways. When Jane gave birth, Amanda was the first to visit her at the hospital, and she even offered to help with the baby. In the end, Amanda learned a valuable lesson about not judging others without knowing their story.
