The Curious Case of Little Johnny and the Silent “H”

Little Johnny, a grade 7 student, was known for asking a plethora of questions in class. His curiosity often led to amusing exchanges with his teachers. One day, while in English class, Johnny posed a question that would lead to a series of hilarious events.

Johnny asked his English teacher why certain letters, like the “H” in words like “hour” and “honour,” were ignored in pronunciation. His teacher explained that these letters were considered silent, but this only seemed to confuse Johnny further.

Later that day, during lunch, Johnny’s teacher asked him to heat up her packed lunch in the cafeteria. However, when Johnny returned with the container, it was empty. His teacher was shocked and asked what had happened to her food. Johnny, quick-witted as ever, replied, “But madam, I thought the ‘H’ was silent, so I ate it instead of heating it!”

The teacher couldn’t help but laugh at Johnny’s clever, albeit mischievous, response. This lighthearted anecdote is a testament to the playful and curious nature of students like Little Johnny, and the patience and sense of humour required of their teachers.
