Blake Shelton recently suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of his friend Joe Bonsall, a member of the renowned country and gospel band The Oak Ridge Boys. To honor his friend’s memory, Blake shared a touching tribute on social media.
Blake posted a photo of himself singing alongside The Oak Ridge Boys, although the exact date and location of the picture are unknown. In his Instagram Stories, he expressed his heartbreak over Joe’s passing, describing him as always smiling and full of life.
Blake fondly remembered Joe’s passion for singing, saying he loved it more than anyone he had ever met. He also extended his prayers to Joe’s family and his fellow band members, acknowledging the significant loss they had all suffered.
Joe Bonsall was a talented singer, author, and musician who had been an integral part of The Oak Ridge Boys since 1973. He had been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and passed away due to complications from the disease.
Fans had learned about Joe’s diagnosis in January 2024, and he had announced his departure from the band at the same time. Joe is survived by his wife Mary Ann, two daughters, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
As a testament to his multifaceted talents, Joe had authored 11 books, including an upcoming memoir titled I See Myself, scheduled for release in November. His love for singing, reading, writing, and playing the banjo will be deeply missed by his fans and fellow musicians.
The Oak Ridge Boys, which also comprises William Lee Golden, Richard Sterban, and Duane Allen, will continue their American Made: The Farewell tour, which starts today and runs until December 8. Although Joe may be gone, his legacy and contributions to country music will live on through the band’s music and the memories of his fans.”
