As I wrapped up my latest project, BODYPOP, a high-fashion activewear line, I couldn’t help but reflect on the true meaning of being a “real woman.” The term has been thrown around in the comments section of my social media posts, with some critics arguing that I didn’t use “real women” to model my collection.
But what does it mean to be a “real woman” anyway? Is it defined by size, shape, or weight? Or is it something more profound? As I delved deeper into this question, I realized that the answer lies not in physical appearance, but in the values and principles that we uphold.
The average American woman has changed significantly over the past few decades. According to statistics, the average woman today is 5’4″ with a waist size of 34-35″ and weighs between 140-150 lbs. This is a far cry from the average woman of the 1960s, who stood at 5’3-4″ with a waist size of 24-25″ and weighed around 120 lbs.
But here’s the thing: being a “real woman” has nothing to do with these statistics. It’s not about conforming to societal norms or striving for an unrealistic ideal. It’s about being confident, strong, and beautiful in your own skin.
That’s why I chose to feature models Monique and Alyssa in my BODYPOP campaign. They embody the values of strength, beauty, and confidence that I want to inspire in women everywhere. They’re not photoshopped or starving themselves to fit an unrealistic ideal. They’re real women, with real bodies, and real talents.
As I move forward with my BODYPOP line, I want to make one thing clear: this brand is for every woman, regardless of size, shape, or weight. It’s for women who want to feel confident, strong, and beautiful. It’s for women who want to take control of their health and wellness. And it’s for women who want to inspire others to do the same.
So, let’s redefine what it means to be a “real woman.” Let’s celebrate our differences and promote inclusivity, diversity, and body positivity. Let’s show the world that being a “real woman” is not about physical appearance, but about being confident, strong, and beautiful from the inside out.
