A Dinner Date Disaster: When “Forgetting” a Wallet Becomes a Habit

I’ve been dating my boyfriend for a while now, and we often go out to dinner with his kids. However, I’ve noticed a disturbing pattern – every time we eat out, he “forgets” his credit card, leaving me to foot the bill. At first, I thought it was just an honest mistake, but as it kept happening, I started to feel like I was being taken advantage of.

One evening, we were at a restaurant with his kids, and I reminded him to bring his wallet. He laughed it off, but when the bill arrived, he claimed he had left his wallet in another pair of jeans. I was fed up with his excuses and refused to pay for everyone again. I grabbed my things and walked out of the restaurant, leaving him and his kids behind.

Later, he called me, accusing me of being selfish for leaving them in that situation. I explained that I couldn’t keep paying for him and his kids every time we went out. He yelled at me, saying I had shown no sympathy for him and his children, and that he had to cancel their food order and take them home hungry because he couldn’t afford their meals.

The argument escalated, with him saying he needed to reevaluate how I treated his children. He claimed I was willing to let them go hungry because of my selfishness. I shared my story on Reddit, and most users agreed that my boyfriend was using me. They thought I was right to stand up for myself and refuse to pay for everyone.

Looking back, I realize that I should have addressed this issue earlier. I shouldn’t have let him take advantage of me for so long. I’m glad I finally stood up for myself, even if it meant having an uncomfortable conversation.
