Matt was unwinding after a long day, taking a shower while his wife Alice relaxed in bed with her iPad. Their kids were asleep, or so he thought. As he stepped out of the bathroom, he heard his baby’s cries and his 3-year-old son Jake calling out for him.
Matt checked on the baby and found Alice still engrossed in her iPad. He asked her why she hadn’t calmed their son down, and she replied that she had tried three times before giving up. Matt’s concern shifted to Jake, who was frantically crying in his room.
As Matt entered Jake’s room, he was met with a shocking sight. The room was covered in a thick, red liquid, and Jake was shaking uncontrollably. Matt’s initial fear gave way to relief when he realized it was just paint. He comforted Jake, cleaned him up, and changed his clothes.
The incident sparked a heated conversation between Matt and Alice. Matt was angry and felt that Alice had neglected their child. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when Matt spoke with his mother-in-law, who revealed that Alice was struggling with depression.
The pressure of motherhood and losing her sense of identity had become overwhelming for Alice. Matt was shocked, realizing that he had been so focused on the situation that he hadn’t noticed his wife’s struggles. He immediately returned home, hugged Alice tightly, and apologized.
Alice broke down in tears, and the couple began their journey towards healing. The next day, Matt took Alice to see a family therapist, marking the beginning of their path towards overcoming their challenges and rebuilding their relationship.
