Born to a Bosnian mother and a Kosovan father, Dua Lipa’s life was marked by her family’s experiences during the war in the 1990s. Her parents had moved to London in 1992 to seek refuge, but they eventually returned to Kosovo when Lipa was 11 years old.
However, Lipa had other plans. At 14, she told her parents that she wanted to return to London to pursue her passion for music. She tricked them into letting her go by saying she wanted to attend a British university. Once in London, Lipa enrolled in the Sylvia Young Theatre School and began recording demo tapes, which she uploaded to YouTube and Soundcloud.
Lipa’s hard work and determination paid off. She was discovered by a producer and eventually signed a record deal. Her love for music, singing, and dancing had started when she was very young, and she knew she had a natural talent.
Today, Lipa is a world-famous pop star who has broken numerous records. Her song “Levitating” became the longest-charting Billboard Hot 100 hit ever, and her 2020 Thanksgiving weekend Studio 2054 livestream broke records, amassing over 5 million views. She has also become the most listened-to female artist on Spotify, landing her another Guinness World Record.
Despite her success, Lipa remains humble and does not take too much note of the awards she has won. She has been nominated for 10 Grammys and has won three. Lipa’s personal life is also on the up, as she recently gained Albanian citizenship.
Lipa’s story is an inspiring one, showing that with hard work, determination, and a passion for what you do, you can achieve your dreams, no matter where you come from.
