Tragedy Strikes on the Ice: 17-Year-Old Hockey Player Connor Kasin Passes Away

A charity hockey match in New York took a devastating turn when 17-year-old Connor Kasin collapsed on the ice and passed away. The match, held at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage, was organized to commemorate a fellow student who had passed away the previous year.

Connor, a senior student at Massapequa High School, was an enthusiastic hockey player who had joined the charity match to honor the memory of Syosset High School graduate Sabrina Navaretta, who had died in a car crash in 2023. However, during an intermission in the game, Connor suddenly became unwell and lost consciousness on the ice.

Despite immediate CPR and the swift arrival of paramedics and police, Connor was unable to be revived and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The cause of his death has not been publicly disclosed, but police have confirmed that no foul play is suspected.

The news of Connor’s passing sent shockwaves through the community, with Massapequa Public Schools Superintendent William Brennan expressing his profound sorrow and condolences to Connor’s family and friends. Brennan described Connor as a “cherished member of our school community, known for his kindness, positivity, enthusiasm, and big smile.”

Sabrina’s parents, who had organized the charity match, also extended their heartfelt condolences to Connor’s loved ones, acknowledging the devastating pain of losing a child. They urged Connor’s family to “take the time to grieve and be kind” to themselves, assuring them that they were not alone in their sorrow.

As the community comes to terms with this tragic loss, Connor’s memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, enthusiasm, and love for hockey.
