Breaking Barriers in Style: Teen’s Prom Outfit Sparks Joy and Controversy

Sixteen-year-old Korben White made headlines with his bold prom outfit – a flowing red ballgown paired with a sequined tuxedo top and scarlet-colored hair. The look, inspired by American actor Billy Porter, was a declaration of self-expression and individuality.

Korben’s mother, Nina Green, shared a heartfelt post on Twitter, showcasing her son’s confidence and style. The viral tweet garnered millions of views, with many praising Korben’s courage and Green’s unwavering support.

Green recalled Korben’s desire to wear a gown to prom since he was 12. Four years later, he made it happen, and the response was overwhelming. Staff and students at Archbishop Sancroft High School applauded Korben’s arrival, and even some teachers were moved to tears.

Green emphasized the importance of accepting children for who they are. “If you let your child be who they are, then you’ll get nothing but the best out of them.” Her post inspired others to share their own stories of gender-bending children, sparking a wave of support and solidarity.

However, not everyone was receptive. Some comments criticized Green’s parenting, calling it a “failure” and claiming Korben’s outfit was “unnatural.” But Green remained steadfast, ignoring negativity and focusing on her son’s happiness.

Korben, also known as Miss Frou Frou in the drag community, was thrilled by the support, including a nod from RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage. “You are an amazing beautiful mom and your child is a STAR,” Visage tweeted.

Green hopes their story will encourage others to accept and celebrate their children’s individuality. “You need to accept your children for who they are,” she emphasized.

As Korben and his mother marched in London Pride, their bond and commitment to self-expression shone brighter than any criticism. Korben’s bravery and Green’s unwavering support serve as a powerful reminder that love and acceptance can conquer all.
